The Moco Museum, also known as the modern and contemporary museum of Amsterdam, is a museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art, located in the heart of Amsterdam’s famous museum square (Museumplein). It is the first museum in the world to host an exhibition of works by the graffiti artist Banksy, whose real identity remains unknown.

And thanks to the collaboration between Moco and the Dutch contemporary artist studio irma, a new immersive digital art exhibition was created: “Reflecting Forward”. Brightly coloured lighting and staged, rhythmic music guide you through the interactive artworks. This art installation is a fan favourite as visitors can explore, experience and reflect on it in their own way.

Highlights of the Moco Museum

Amsterdam’s modern and contemporary museum, Moco for short, has achieved international success with its unique exhibition of works by street artist Banksy. Many of Banksy’s most famous pieces are on display: Laugh Now, Barcode, Girl with the Balloon and Flower Thrower.

Laugh Now

A current exhibition at the moco museum in Amsterdam features some of Banksy’s most beloved works, including the eponymous Laugh Now. This vibrant and varied collection of original paintings, sculptures and prints spans Banksy’s entire career.

Girl with Balloon

Girl with Balloon is one of the must-see pieces in the Moco Museum. Girl with Balloon is a series of urban artworks by Banksy, a stencil painting that first appeared in London in 2002 on Waterloo Bridge in South Bank. The work depicts the image of a little girl in a black dress reaching for a red heart-shaped balloon that is flying away. To the right of the girl is the inscription ‘There is always hope’.

The Flower Thrower

The Flower Thrower (Love is in the Air) is probably Banksy’s most famous work. It was created in 2003 in the streets of Jerusalem. It is typical of his ironic, poetic and political work. The image shows a man whose identity is unknown (he wears a balaclava and a cap to conceal who he is) throwing a bouquet of flowers.

This masterpiece, which has become a classic of street art, is as poetic as it is political, with its effective simplicity and unrivalled power. But what does it really mean?

Beanfield

Beanfield is the centrepiece of the museum’s exhibition, even though it has not been exhibited for a long time. Indeed, Beanfield is recognised as an important example of Banksy’s social activism, his anti-military sentiments and his bold and often jarring combination of subject and colour.
